Chief Inspector Agnes Ndanu has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Matungulu over allegations that she pushed her 25-year-old girlfriend, Nicole Omondi, from the sixth floor of an apartment in Nairobi's Thome Estate.
The arrest follows a manhunt launched by Kasarani detectives after the incident, which left Omondi with severe spinal injuries. Ndanu is expected to be arraigned in court once processing is complete.
Kasarani Sub-County DCIO Aloyce Mboya had earlier said the officer's rank in the National Police Service would not shield her from prosecution. The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is overseeing the investigations because the suspect is a serving police officer.
Police allege the incident occurred after a dispute between the two at the apartment. Investigators recovered blood-stained bedding and broken glass from the scene and are reviewing phone records as part of the probe.
Omondi remains admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital with serious spinal injuries sustained in the fall. Investigations are ongoing.
