Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has approved an 80% salary increase for junior soldiers, raising their monthly pay from about KSh4,680 (US$36) to approximately KSh17,160 (US$132) from September. The move follows an earlier increase to about KSh9,490 (US$73) in July and is intended to boost morale among troops fighting insurgents, armed groups and kidnapping gangs.
